Sugarpill Heart Breaker Palette review & swatches

Not up for reading right now? Hear me say words instead!

***I made the pictures ridiculously huge on purpose so you could get the full effect:-)

Hello everyone!

Today I'm going to be reviewing for you the must-have palette of the moment: Sugarpill's Heart Breaker Palette!

Yes, I know it's been out since May and I did my YouTube review of it almost 15 days ago, but I'm getting everything up and running around here and I decided this news wasn't old enough to forgo re-creating the review in print form.

As Urban Decay just released their Smoked Palette, some might think this will give the Sugarpill Heart Breaker palette a run for its money. Let's face it, we all know what happens when a new Urban Decay palette comes out (does mayhem, pandemonium, madness sound familiar?). While Urban Decay's palettes nowadays seem to be more neutrals (Naked palettes) and smokey colors, Sugarpill caters to the color lovers in us all with their bright shadows so I don't think they have anything to worry about!

The Heart Breaker palette is a part of Sugarpill's Addicted to Pretty collection, which features two other palettes: The Burning Heart palette and the Sweetheart palette. These two quads feature some awesome colors as well, so I would definitely check those out if you love Sugarpill.

This being my first ever experience with Sugarpill, I have to say that I am now IN LOVE! These eyeshadows are highly pigmented and easy to work with, not to mention incredibly blendable.

Alright, let's begin with some photos of the packaging!:

The box that the palette comes in:
The front of the box features the adorable Sugarpill kitty!

The back of the box lists all of the ingredients for the shadows:

Many cosmetics companies package their products in black packaging. While I certainly have nothing against these companies and I admit that it makes the buyer feel like they are getting something expensive or luxurious, I find it very refreshing to get bright, artistic, fun packaging with my cosmetics!

Here's a card that also came in the box:

One one side it features the lovely Amelia, the poster child for this palette:

On the other side, it lists the social networking sites for Sugarpill:

The package also came with one of their Sugarpill stickers! Not sure where I'm going to stick it yet!

Always a pleasant surprise, I also got a free sample (yay) of their Magpie loose shadow. I used very little product here and no primer, so it is way more pigmented than I'm making it out to be. I will try to replace this with a better swatch tomorrow:

Magpie is a beautiful shimmery dark blue, almost borderline black.

Now on to the palette!

Here is the front of the palette, cute as always:

On the back, there's the sticker/label with all of the shadows clearly labeled in case you forget which one is which (trust me, you won't forget anything from this palette):

.....And what you've all been waiting for.......The palette! Ta da!

I've been using mine a lot lately!
I think this photo shows the color more accurately than the first.

The first color is a true lime green called Acidberry. I'm always looking for a good lime green but none of my other products seem to measure up! I think it's funny that on the Sugarpill website it says, "Finally, the perfect vibrant lime green you've been looking everywhere for," because that's definitely the case for me!

For comparison products, I have swatched Acidberry next to OCC Loose Colour Concentrate in Wasabi and MAC pressed eyeshadow in Bitter

ALL SWATCHES:
Next up is Velocity. This is a very nice blue color and I've been looking for this shade everywhere! I have lots of navy blues and sky blues, but nothing like this. It is a basic blue that is extremely vibrant! Many have compared it to Sugarpill's Royal Sugar loose shadows, so if you like that but want it in pressed form, check out Velocity!

For comparison purposes, I have swatched Velocity next to MAC Marine Ultra pigment and MAC Freshwater pressed shadow.

The next eyeshadow in the Heart Breaker palette is 2 a.m. This is a very interesting purple. It is a grape purple as opposed to a royal purple like MUFE 92. I find a lot of this type of purple with poor color payoff, but this one is as amazing as the other shadows.

For comparison purposes, I have swatched 2 a.m. with MUFE Pure Pigment in purple, Urban Decay Fishnet and MUFE 92.

Pretty sure I saved the best for last here....Mochi! I think this is my favorite shadow in the palette, if not my favorite eyeshadow of all time! The Sugarpill website describes this as a "mint seafoam" and I'm gonna go with that because I have no idea how to describe it! It is definitely not teal or turquoise even though it looks that way at first sight. It's beautiful and lightly shimmery with an awesome color payoff.

For comparison, I have swatched Mochi with Inglot Matte 372, Urban Decay Electric, Ben Nye Turquoise, and MAC Aquadisiac.

Well, there you have it! I had so much fun taking and looking at these pictures because everything's so bright!

In my opinion, the pigmentation is comparable to Make Up For Ever shadows. If you are into Make Up For Ever, I would definitely check out this palette as there are many new and interesting colors that MUFE might not offer. In contrast, I would say that Sugarpill's shadows are extremely soft to the touch and have a more buttery feeling, and they blend amazingly!!

I recommend using a smaller eyeshadow brush to pack the color on the lid for a more intense payoff.

Removal from palette:

Wait, that packaging is super awesome and all but I want these in my Z Palette! How do I get them out?!

After some online research, I discovered how to get these out of the palette without destroying the packaging! I didn't have this knowledge at the time I filmed the video but I went back and fixed my mistake:-)  (Admitting and fixing your mistakes is so much better than digging yourself deeper!)
If you peel the sticker off of the back of the palette, it will reveal four tiny holes, one behind each shadow:

Take something small and pokey and poke through the hole to push the eyeshadow out of the palette! It's already magnetized and everything so you can put it in your Z Palette! I also find that the sticker/label on the back sticks back on quite nicely so don't worry about messing up your palette!

Ta da! No more shadows!

Sugarpill also sells each of these colors individually, but I would recommend going ahead and just getting the palette since you will pay much more getting them all individually. $12x4 = $48. That's $14 more than getting the palette!

In conclusion, these eyeshadows are pigmented, buttery, and super blendable. My first experience with Sugarpill has been a very positive one and I look forward to making many more purchases with them! Maybe someone can talk them into showing up at IMATS NY next year;-)
I haven't found colors quite like these anywhere else! They are truly one-of-a-kind and some of the prettiest colors I've ever seen!

Plus, they spelled my name right:-P

The Sugarpill Heart Breaker palette sells for $34 and you can pick one up at sugarpill.net!

Do you have the Sugarpill palette? If so, what do you think so far?
