Stowaway Cosmetics review Part 1 - Eye products

Missed all the excitement? Check out my post with more info on Stowaway Cosmetics!

If you just need a quick refresher, Stowaway Cosmetics is a relatively new company that combats the woes of larger-than-life-sized makeup products that are too big to be used entirely before they expire and too bulky to carry or travel with.

Their "right-sized" line of cosmetic essentials is not only adorable, but also more practical, portable, sanitary, economical, and cost effective than its hefty competitors.

So......like how small are we talking, here?

So.....What did I get?

Stowaway Cosmetics offers the option of ordering a customize-able "Stowaway Kit," which they call the "Little Black Dress" of beauty. One kit includes all six of their classic products for a total of $75. Here are the items featured in the kit along with the shades I picked, where applicable:

Defined Lash Mascara                                           $12
Effortless Eyeliner (Spice)                                    $10
Creme Lipstick (Champagne)                               $15
Lip & Cheek Rouge (Burnt Rose)                          $15
BB Cream (Fair)                                                  $22
Concealer (Fair)                                                   $16
                                                                          ____
                                                                          = $90

As you can see, all of these items cost $90 when bought individually, so it's a pretty darn good deal for the kit. You're probably going to want to buy everything anyway, so you might as well go ahead and get the kit:)

I also saw on one of the various social media outlets that a summer collection was coming out soon, so when I received an email stating that I could add the new collection to my cart in one fell swoop, I thought, "what the heck?" The collection sold for face-value and cost $42 for the three items.

Creme Lipstick (Fig)
Extreme Lash Mascara
Cheek & Lip Rouge (Canteloupe)

I also used a coupon code on my order so I couldn't pass up this deal!
$75 + $42 = $117 - $30 coupon + free shipping over $25 =  $87 for 9 makeup items!

When divided out evenly, that makes each item less than $10!

Today, I am highlighting the EYE products that I got from Stowaway Cosmetics.

Without further ado, here's the good stuff:

Effortless Eyeliner

I'm picky about my eyeliner. Especially with the South Carolina heat and a right eye that randomly likes to water. I've used some awful raccoon-smudge drugstore liners and some darn near perfect prestige brands. I've had liners that transferred to my crease with one blink and liners that managed to stay mostly in place on long days.

I also get those inner corner tear duct liner boogers that can ruin the most pristine eyeshadow looks.

I’m sometimes skeptical about trying new liners since I've found a pencil and gel liner that work for me. I did not have very high hopes for this product and I honestly came into it with a pretty negative attitude.

....buuuuuuut....

This eyeliner is pretty awesome!

Even my sharpest pencil liners are still too soft to do a sharp cat eye or a lot of precision thin lines on the inner corner, so I usually use my gel liners and angled brush for that type of stuff.

I saw that the tip of this liner was very pointed and sharp, but I was like “ehhh, it’s just gonna get soft and mushy and wear down on the end after one use."

Nope, I was actually able to do a cat eye/winged liner with this which made me ecstatic because I really didn't want to do a boring regular eye outline to test out this liner.

I was not expecting this to be precise enough to do the thin line I like at the inner corner or a wing in the outer corner, but I did it! It is soft enough to glide on without tugging but hard enough that it doesn’t smush easily.

I wore it out on a couple of errands. I came back, romped around with the pets, and ate dinner. Several hours later, I finally looked in the mirror….. I took my glasses off and leaned in good…..no eye boogers

The thin line in the inner corner was still thin. My cat eye was still sharp and wing-shaped and hadn't bled out to look like a hippo. I checked the lower lid to look for the familiar brown or black smudges in my deep under-eye creases after hours of wear. Nope. No transfer in the crease of my upper lid. Wow. I was so wrong about this eyeliner it’s almost funny. Almost.

Defined Lash Mascara

The first thing you will notice about the Defined Lash mascara is the curved brush. I've used many mascaras but none with the curved brush before so I was excited to try this. I’m wary of mascaras as I have used many prestige hyped up brands that ended up flaking all over my cheeks.

The brush seriously impressed me. I thought the curved shape would be difficult and awkward to work with, but it was actually the exact opposite. This brush allowed me to reach every lash with ease because the curve is shaped like your eye.

It’s not a straight brush that you have to awkwardly bend and point toward your inner corner, then accidentally stab yourself and smear mascara all over your undereye. You can pretty much rotate this brush and use any side of it you want to get at any part of your lash and customize your experience.

I got some on my lower lid, but that was operator error...

This mascara definitely lengthens, but more importantly there was NO clumping. I don’t think this would clump if you tried to do it on purpose. Each lash looked clean and separated and 10 lashes weren't stuck together like a spider. I put two coats on just because I like two coats sometimes, and it didn't add any clumps.

It also did not flake off under my eye or on my cheeks. Since I was wearing light brown liner and light shadow, it would have been easy to tell if black mascara had gotten anywhere it wasn't supposed to be. It was a genuine pleasure to use this mascara and I can honestly say this is the least fussy mascara that I have every used.

Extreme Lash Mascara

The Extreme Lash has a straight silicone brush like some Maybelline mascaras. I tend to prefer this type of brush because it lends itself to pretty perfect application, although I was very impressed with the soft brush of the Defined Lash mascara.

While there were maybe a couple clumps compared to the zero clumps of the first mascara, that's not saying much in the way of a complaint. It still went on very well and lengthened my lashes without sticking them together.

Blurry, but shows the length.

I also didn't notice any smudging or flaking with this mascara and overall I'm very pleased with how it performed!

So, I guess I liked this stuff

Overall, I am very pleasantly surprised with these products. I will admit that I am skeptical about trying new cosmetic companies because I'm sure all of us have tried a bad makeup product at some point.

All of the products seemed to do what they claimed to do, and I have actually replaced some of my other usual products with these in my makeup routine! If I go that far, you know I liked them :-)

I would recommend these products and I can't wait to see if they will come out with some more liner colors or maybe even a liquid...Who knows?

Here is my link to sign up for your own account if you wish to purchase these products. Both of us will get some points and you will get some cool stuff!

Stick around a couple of weeks and I will have my review of the lip and cheek products from Stowaway Cosmetics!

Love you all:-)

*all opinions are my own and I bought all items myself
